Overview

Play/Pause is a private-first media tracking app for movies, TV shows, episodes, ratings, personal and shared watchlists, and watch history. Your tracking data is private to your account by default. The one exception is Shared Watchlists: if you create a shared watchlist or accept an invitation to one, the items on that specific watchlist are visible to the other members you share it with. Your watch history, ratings, and personal watchlist are never shared.

Information We Collect

Play/Pause may collect and store the following information when you use the app:

  • Account information such as your email address and authentication identifiers.
  • Profile information such as profile names and profile settings.
  • Media tracking data such as watch history, rewatches, ratings, watchlist items, Up Next selections, and imported history.
  • Shared watchlist data such as shared watchlist names, the items you add to them, your membership and role (owner or member), and — when you invite someone — the email address you send an invitation to or the invitation code you generate.
  • App operation data needed to keep the service working, such as timestamps, record identifiers, and sync state.

Shared Watchlists

Shared Watchlists let you collaborate on a watchlist with a small group (up to five members per watchlist). Sharing is invitation-only — there are no public profiles, followers, or discovery.

  • Members of a shared watchlist can see its name, its items, and the display names of the other members. They cannot see each other's private watch history, ratings, or personal watchlist.
  • You can invite people by email address or by generating a single-use invitation code. Sending an email invitation stores that email address so the recipient can find the pending invitation; generating a code stores the code until it is accepted or revoked.
  • The watchlist owner can invite and remove members and delete the watchlist. Members can add or remove items and can leave at any time.
  • When you leave a shared watchlist, delete it, or delete your account, your membership is removed. Deleting a watchlist you own removes it and its items for all members.

How We Use Information

We use your information to provide core app features, sync your data across devices, support account access, import compatible media history, export your data, troubleshoot issues, and improve reliability.

Media Metadata

Play/Pause uses The Movie Database (TMDB) for public movie and TV metadata such as titles, posters, episode data, cast, release dates, and streaming provider information. Your private watch history and ratings are not public TMDB data.

Service Providers

Play/Pause uses Firebase services for authentication and cloud data storage. These providers process data as needed to operate the app. We do not sell your personal watch history, ratings, or lists.

Data Export And Deletion

Play/Pause supports exporting your profile data as JSON from within the app. You can delete your account at any time from the app's Settings screen. Deleting your account removes your profiles, watch history, ratings, watchlists, imported data, and shared watchlist memberships from our systems, removes you from any shared watchlists, and deletes shared watchlists you own. If you need deletion assistance instead, you can contact support; some requests may require verification that you control the account.

Children

Play/Pause is not intended for children under 13. The app does not include public social features, followers, comments, or public profiles. Shared Watchlists are private and invitation-only, limited to people you explicitly invite.

Changes

We may update this policy as Play/Pause changes. The latest version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
